By definition, a slum is a densely populated
urban area marked by extreme poverty, filth, and social tension.
Scavenging, begging, bonded labor, prostitution and hopelessness are
just a way of life.
This is the true story of a man named Nitya, a
missionary who dreamed of a shack by the sewer and then moved into one.
Motivated by Jesus’ love, Pastor Nitya dedicated his live to serve
those in the slums—starting with the children.
Pastor Nitya started a school for these little ones; offering
compassion, acceptance and hope to the children. Through his care for
them, the children and their families felt valued for the first time in
their lives. The message of hope spread throughout the slum and now a
fellowship meets together for prayer and worship.
Up to 25% of the population of Asia’s major cities live in
slums, and hope for a way out is almost nonexistent. But through Gospel
for Asia supported-missionaries like Pastor Nitya, the news of Jesus’
love is transforming lives.
