When the Enemy Comes in Like a Flood

Isaiah 59:19
AMP
So [as the result of the Messiah's intervention] they shall [reverently] fear
the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the
sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will
lift up a standard against him and put him to flight [for He will come like
a rushing stream which the breath of the Lord drives].

When the enemy comes in like a flood
... midst a flood of lies, strong deception --2 Thess 2:10-12
... and intoxicating wine --Rev 17:2
Who will be able to stand? Who will remain and endure until the end?

Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him,
... on those who hope in His mercy,
... to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.
--Ps 33:18-20

Those who fear the Lord have been given a banner
A banner to be displayed because of the truth --Ps 60:4-5
Those who fear the Lord,
those whose love of His truth will not grow cold;
His beloved will stand and endure.

When the enemy comes in like a flood
May you stand perfect
... firm, immovable, fixed, enduring,
... established of steadfast and sound mind
And fully assured
... complete, lacking nothing, finished
In all the will of God. -- Col 4:12

May you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast,
and not be moved away from the hope, love and
truth of the gospel that you have heard. -- Col 1:23

Stand firm then HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH and PUT ON
THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS ... --Eph 6:14

May your love of the truth never grow cold!

Psalm 60:4-5
You have given a banner to those who fear You, that it may be displayed
because of the truth, that Your beloved may be delivered,
save with Your right hand, and hear me.

Matthew 7:25
And the rain descended and the floods came and the wind blew,
and burst against that house; and yet it did not fall,
for it had been founded upon the rock.

Matthew 24:11-13
Many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because
lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who
endures to the end shall be saved.

I do not waver through unbelief regarding the promises of ABBA FATHER GOD. But I am strengthened in my faith, and I give ALL glory to GOD. I am fully pursuaded and totaly convinced that what HE has said/promised in HIS Word HE will perform it in my life. Job22:28, "You too will decree a thing and it will be done for you." EZ.12:28, "This is what the Sovereign LORD says; None of MY words will be delayed any longer; whatever I say will be fulfilled, declares the LORD." Put these words in your heart and say them out of your mouth, and you will see the GLORY OF GOD manifest before your eyes! HALLELUJAH TO THE KING OF KINGS AND TO THE LORD OF LORDS-HOLY ARE YOU LORD JESUS!!! \o/\o/\o/  Love you ALL-prayin' & decreein' & rejoicin'-LET YOUR KINGDOM COME, ABBA FATHER, LET YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH THIS DAY IN OUR LIVES  AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.

Prayin' for Abraham, that his heart was touched, the ground plowed with the words of TRUTH our Brother Pieter shared with him. (((You planted Pieter, some will come along and water, ABBA FATHER gives the growth)))! We ask you, JESUS, to visit Abraham and give him 'one of those testimonies where a man in a long white robe appeared and said HE loved him.'  \o/\o/\o/ TY JESUS! Been hearing this testimony more and more in this season. HALLELUJAH TO KING JESUS!!! OUR DESIRE LINES UP WITH YOURS, ABBA FATHER, THAT NOT ONE PERISHES. GLORY TO GOD!  Love you ALL-prayin' & decreein' & rejoicin'-"Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears(reveres, stands in awe) of the LORD, who finds great delight in HIS commands. His children with be mighty in the land; EACH generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth & riches are in his house; and his righteousness endures forever. Even in darkness light dawns for the upright; for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely; who conducts his affairs with justice. Surely he will NEVER be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever. He will have NO fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. His heart is secure, he will have NO fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes. He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures FOREVER; his horn(dignity) will be lifted high in honor." Now, this is GOOD NEWS-prophesing it from the mountaintops, in JESUS' NAME!

Karen,

Thanks for sharing. Nice picture too.

I would like to hear what is your take or result of study regarding the verse. I remember in the mid-80s how Morris Cerullo emphasized that the comma in the KJV is misplaced. He taught us that a more accurate rendition of the verse should be "...When the enemy comes in , like a flood the Spirit of the Lord.."

Thus the word "flood" did not refer to the enemy but to the Spirit of the Lord.

I checked the Interlinear Bible but didn't really see where the comma is. However, I saw the original word used for "flood" didn't have a negative connotation. On the contrary, it is positive.

Also, I checked the other Bible translations and realized that the KJV is on the minority on this particular verse.

OT:5104

OT:5104 rh*n* nahar (naw-hawr'); from OT:5102; a stream (including the sea; expec. the Nile, Euphrates, etc.); figuratively, prosperity:

KJV - flood, river.

(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

Isa 59:19

Then people from the west will fear the Lord,

and people from the east will fear his glory.

The Lord will come quickly like a fast-flowing river,

driven by the breath of the Lord.

NCV

Isa 59:19

In the west, people respectn the Lord's reputation;o

in the east they recognize his splendor.p

For he comes like a rushingq stream

driven on by wind sent from the Lord.r

(from The NET Bible®, Copyright © 1996-2006 by Biblical Studies Press, L.L.C., Dallas, Texas, www.bible.org. All rights reserved. Used by permission.)

Isa 59:19

in the west they will fear the name of Adonai,

and likewise, in the east, his glory.

For he will come like a pent-up stream,

impelled by the Spirit of Adonai.

CJB

Isa 59:19

In the west they'll fear the name of God,

in the east they'll fear the glory of God,

For he'll arrive like a river in flood stage,

whipped to a torrent by the wind of God.

(from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

Anyway, I am asking as I am really desiring more light regarding this verse.

I also looked at this and heard about the comma. :)

I know what you mean about the other versions

http://net.bible.org/verse.php?book=Isa&chapter=59&verse=19

thats why I like the amplified version for this verse -- it seems to
combine the other versions. I agree the rushing stream which the Lord's
breath drives seems to be against the enemy. I also noticed that its the
breath of the LORD from His mouth that puts the enemy to flight. This
goes with the sword coming out of the Lord's mouth in Rev 19:15.

It makes sense that the enemy has an opposite 'stream' or flood --
instead of the sword which is truth -- the enemy's stream is lies.

However the original text might read, its good to know that no matter
how big the enemies 'stream' or 'flood' seems to be -- the LORD's is
BIGGER! And the enemy is put to flight (or devoured by the sword of the
LORD!) I actually like this image!

Isaiah 59:19 AMP
So [as the result of the Messiah's intervention] they shall [reverently] fear
the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the
sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will
lift up a standard against him and put him to flight [for He will come like
a rushing stream which the breath of the Lord drives].

truly I believe the emphasis in the teaching of the 'church' over the years has been to give the enemy FAR TOO MUCH credit! He is DEFEATED and we are MORE THAN CONQUERERS THROUGH CHRIST...

I read a teaching 'as it was in the days of Noah so shall it be at the end of the age'... and quite honestly.. people have been 'taught' to FEAR the end times.. to FEAR the power of the enemy (what power? a toothless lion roaring??) to FEAR being put to death or persecuted for the Lord!

C'mon! Our God is GOOD ALWAYS! The same power that raised Christ Jesus from the dead DWELLS IN US... oh my goodness! Can you get the revelation on that?? The KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS WITHIN US!!

In Noah's time, the wicked were who was 'swept away' by the floods... not the righteous... and Noah who was righteous before God, was the touch point for his whole family's salvation... they were sanctified through him.. because I don't see any reference in the Word to anyone other than Noah being considered a 'righteous man'.

These days that are coming are THE MOST GLORIOUS days of our existence in Christ Jesus our King! We have NOTHING to fear... fear is a spirit from teh pit and it needs to be evicted from our lives.. We need to renew our minds into the TRUE TEACHING from the Word of God and not from the 'church institution' on these last days...

God might allow us to go through hard times.. but truly, HE will be living in us and through us and there are many, many powerful stories in the Word of how God provides for his 'end time's remnant' folks...

Jesus is rising up within each of us to flow our to the broken, devestated sinful world of which we were once a part of.... It is GODS KINDNESS that will lead people to repentance... born out of GODS LOVE, the more excellent way.

Lets step in time with the Spirit of the Kingdom within each one of us and move away from looking to the words and teachings of 'man' no matter how good they may be. Feast upon the Word for yourself and obtain the RHEMA you need for your life and direction from the Lord Himself.

The BEST days of our lives are just ahead.... Amen!

Actually this was a rhema word for me. :)

Knowing how to grasp & take hold of the sword of the Spirit by the Spirit
Knowing how to wield it and speak it by the Spirit
is extremely important at this time ...

as is the love of the truth.

AND Reggie's question gave me the image of the two streams battling --
the LORD's winning -- so I thank him for his question!

Revelation 12:13-17
Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he
persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child . But the woman
was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the
wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and
half a time, from the presence of the serpent. And the serpent poured
water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might
cause her to be swept away with the flood
. But the earth helped the
woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood
which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. And the dragon was
enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her
offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony
of Jesus Christ.

Jeremiah 46:7-10
Who is this that rises like the Nile, like its *streams turbulent at flood
stage? Egypt rises like the Nile, like its streams turbulent at flood stage.
Egypt says, ‘I will arise and cover the earth. I will destroy cities and the
people who inhabit them.’ Charge, O horses! Drive furiously, O
charioteers! March on, O warriors—men of Cush and Put who carry
shields, men of Lydia who draw the bow. But that day belongs to the
Lord, the LORD Almighty—a day of vengeance, for vengeance on his foes.
The sword will devour till it is satisfied, till it has quenched its
thirst with blood. For the Lord, the LORD Almighty, will offer sacrifice in
the land of the north by the River Euphrates.

____________________________________________________________ ____________
From http://net.bible.org/verse.php?book=Jer&chapter=46&verse=7
*streams
The word translated “streams” here refers to the streams of the Nile (cf.
Exod 7:19; 8:1) for parallel usage.

The hubris of the Egyptian Pharaoh is referred to in vv. 7-8 as he
compares his might to that of the Nile River whose annual flooding was
responsible for the fertility of Egypt. A very similar picture of the armies
of Assyria overcoming everything in its path is presented in Isa 8:7-8.
