"Just because we believe that life, all life, is human and worthy of protection at every stage of its development does not make us closed-minded. The people who are actually closed-minded in American politics are the people that love to preach certainty about science with regards to our climate but ignore the absolute fact that science has proven that life begins at conception."

Instead of spending most of the speech criticizing the current administration's policies, as other speakers did, Rubio chose to focus on his support for traditional values; including traditional marriage and protecting the unborn.

"Science has proven that life begins at conception," Rubio stated, even going off-script, to the apparent delight of the crowd in attendance.

Marco Rubio "Just because we believe that life, all life, is human and worthy of protection at every stage of its development does not make us closed-minded," the senator from Florida continued. "The people who are actually closed-minded in American politics are the people that love to preach certainty about science with regards to our climate but ignore the absolute fact that science has proven that life begins at conception."

Speaking on traditional marriage, Rubio noted the "breakdown of the family" as the root of most of society's problems. He added, "Just because I believe that states should have the right to define marriage in the traditional way does not make me a bigot."

Rubio concluded his speech by stating, "We don't need a new idea. There is an idea—the idea called America—and it still works."
