"Everything happens for a reason; God put me here for a reason... I'm surprised I'm still alive. That in itself is a miracle. There's no way around it. No way would I be here, be alive, if not for God." -Zachary MacKenzie

Zachary MacKenzie(Las Vegas, NV)—Zachary MacKenzie's mother Tracey Moran was counseled to abort when she was six months pregnant because doctors believed there was no hope for her unborn son recently diagnosed with a severe heart defect in utero. When she refused and Zachary was born, doctors told her he would die within days. Then, when Zachary didn't die as they expected, there were two more options offered: a heart transplant, which was highly doubtful for newborns, or three dangerous, complex surgeries within three years.

Even so, with the surgeries, doctors predicted Zachary wouldn't make it beyond the age of ten.

This year, 18-year-old Zachary graduated from high-school, and is working two part-time jobs to save money for college.

He is, according to many, a "walking miracle."

Reflecting Zachary's initial diagnosis and the doctor's recommendation that she abort him, Moran said it was a time of fervent prayer. She recalled that her husband and she "looked at the doctor and both [of us] told him to do everything possible to save the baby. We had faith in God that our child would thrive."
