The Iraqi city of Mosul is now the most violent area in the country, and much of the attacks there are directed at Christians.

About 75,000 Christians lived in Mosul before the Iraq war began in 2003. Today, that number has dwindled to only 25,000.

The Christians who've stayed are constantly subject to killings and kidnappings.

Carl Moeller, president of the persecution watchdog group Open Doors USA, called the attacks "religicide," believers killed by the dozens solely because they refuse to follow Islam.

Similar attacks continue to take place across the Middle East.

In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood has been given government control and Christians fear Islamic Sharia will soon be the law of the land.

Believers there and in Syria are fleeing in hopes of a better life.

CBN News Mideast Bureau Chief Chris Mitchell talked more about the church in the Middle East and how Christians are dealing with rising persecution and violence.
