Thousands of Christians Pray and Fast at California Capitol Against Covenant of Death
CBN News
SACRAMENTO, CA - The rally was known as The Call to Conscience. Led by Kansas City pastor Lou Engle, Christians gathered at the Golden State's capitol to pray and fast in protest of same-sex marriage, pornography and abortion. The Christians prayed for 12 straight hours.
"The government is the people. And the people is a reflection of the Church," Engle said during the rally. "The problem is not the government; it is the church."
"If my people would humble themselves and pray, the church gains authority and begins to win the battle," he said, alluding to 2 Chronicles 7:14 in the Bible.
Other speakers included Tony Perkins of the Washington-based Family Research Council and Matt Lockett of Bound4Life. Lockett called abortion "the nation's covenant with death."
"Our society is so broken, prayer and fasting is the only way it can be fixed," 25 year-old Ashley Haley told the Fresno Bee. "God is the only one who can fix America."
Engle urged the crowd to resist attacks on Christian principles.
"A massive door for change has been opened, and California is at the epicenter of a great transition in the country," Engle said. "The church must repent of its wrongdoings, resist attacks on traditional morality, and start a revolution for purity."
