Shahbaz, who has only one name, said he understood the charges that were read in English.
Shahbaz is accused of murdering Ginter, 62, at his home in Taman Sri Ukay, in Hulu Klang here between 5.30pm on May 3 and 10.45am the next day.
He was also separately charged in the Ampang magistrate court for overstaying 49 days after his passport expired. He pleaded guilty to this offence.
Magistrate Ayuni Izzaty Sulaiman gave Shahbaz a jail sentence of three months for overstaying and fixed July 18 for the next mention of the murder case.
It was reported that Ginter was found bound and murdered at his double-storey house on May 4.
His neighbour, who had a spare key, discovered the body when he was asked by Ginter's wife to check on him.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Amiruddin Jamaluddin had said that post-mortem results showed that Ginter had died of asphyxiation due to gagging and neck compression.
It is learnt that Ginter, who had been living in Malaysia for about four years, was a senior pastor at the Bridge International Church in Jalan Ampang.
