Honesty of Probation Officer when She Turns in Over $220,000 Astounds FOX News' Shepard Smith

by Aimee Herd : Nov 22, 2013 : FOX News

"It actually was a great day because that money was recovered. The thought of taking that money, or doing anything with the money besides turning it in and calling the sheriff's office, was not on my mind at all."

Jessica (Jefferson Parish, Louisiana)—The honesty of probation officer Jessica Luebke caught the eye of the media recently, when upon leaving her office, she stumbled upon a plastic bag containing nearly a quarter of a million dollars—and she turned it in.

The money was actually from a casino, and was dropped by the armored car service which was taking it to the bank.

Luebke noticed the "huge ziplock bag" with "bundles of hundreds and twenties in it" sitting next to the curb as she drove by. Realizing what it was, she turned around and checked it out, then called the sheriff and waited for them to arrive.

How the money got there was a mystery to Jessica and the police, until an armored car showed up asking if they'd seen a bag with money, as one had "fallen out of the vehicle" upon transport.

Interviewing Luebke, FOX's Shepard Smith seemed incredulous, suggesting that since the money was originally that of the casino, Luebke could have taken it and done a lot of good things with the money, and that it "could've been a great day."

Jessica told Shepard, "It actually was a great day because that money was recovered. The thought of taking that money, or doing anything with the money besides turning it in and calling the sheriff's office, was not on my mind at all."

When asked if she might get a finder's fee, Jessica replied that she hadn't thought of it at first and that that was "really not why I did it," but she added that many people had asked her the same question.

Shepard Smith noted that the casino where the recovered money was from, owed Jessica a "steak dinner or at least a pat on the back."

Said Jessica, laughing, "I'll take the pat on the back!"
