(Canberra)—The High Court of Australia handed down a decision in the issue of gay marriage there, ruling that it violates the Federal Marriage Act (which defines marriage as between a man and a woman) and is therefore not legal.
According to a CBN News report, the ruling came after a federal challenge to last month's landmark law that allowed gay marriage within the Australian Capital Territory; striking it down.
The High Court stated that: "The [Federal] Marriage Act provides that a marriage can be solemnised in Australia only between a man and a woman. That Act is a comprehensive and exhaustive statement of the law of marriage."
