Misson Mongolia: Jesus and the Final Frontiers

By Michael Ireland, Senior Reporter, ASSIST News Service answritermike@gmail.com

(ANS - COLORADO SPRINGS, CO., Feb.2, 2015) -- Amid the rugged beauty and fascinating culture of Mongolia, there is a spiritual awakening taking place. People there are coming to Christ because people have prayed, worked and given to make Him known in a place where Communism once forbade the practice of religion.

“Today,” writes Wayne Pederson, President of Reach Beyond (www.reach beyond.org) “there are about 40,000 believers worshiping in some 600 churches across the country. That’s the good news. The challenge is that the 40,000 believers represent only about 1.2 percent of the nation’s population.”

In a ministry update, Pederson says: “That’s why I want to share with you about Mission Mongolia—a strategic partnership with Far East Broadcasting Co. (FEBC), a ministry like Reach Beyond that is dedicated to using media outreach to take the gospel to places where the name of Jesus has not been declared.”

Pederson writes: “More than a decade ago, I had the privilege of helping raise funds to establish the first Christian station in Mongolia. Today, the opportunity is even greater to accelerate the spread of the gospel nationwide.”

According to Pederson, the goal of the project is to work with local believers to put a Christian radio station in each of Mongolia’s 21 provinces, blanketing the nation with gospel broadcasts.

He said: “Right now there are six partner stations on the air, and many people seeking spiritual truth are meeting in small groups to discuss what they hear on the programs. This year, by God’s grace and provision, Reach Beyond and FEBC plan to add another three stations plus a studio so the gospel and other content can be developed and aired throughout the country. “

Pederson explained that in addition to the stations, Reach Beyond and FEBC donors have provided more than 900 solar-powered, fixed-tuned SonSet® radios that FEBC-Mongolia will distribute so people near the stations can listen to the broadcasts.

A Reach Beyond radio planter recently shared this encouragement, “I think the spiritual void left by communism has left people curious about Christianity.” He added, “I believe that hope is contagious, and many Mongolian people are finding that Christ is the greatest hope of all.”

Pederson added: “We have a long way to go to fulfill this vision. Every station costs about $25,000 to launch, and each SonSet® radio sent costs $35. But when we commit to making Christ known to those who have never met Him and we share the burden, the goal can be achieved.”

He stated that together with Reach Beyond and FEBC-Mongolia, you can help declare the name of Jesus to the people of Mongolia and around the world. “You literally extend His ‘voice’ and ‘hands’ to those who have never heard His name,” he said..

“When you give and pray, you help reach the people of Mongolia with Christian radio, minister to Ebola victims in West Africa, send hope to refugees in the Middle East, provide clean water and medical caravans in Central Asia, Africa and Latin America and so much more.

“God calls each of us to play a vital role in the Great Commission. Your gifts and prayers are doing just that,” he said.

Pederson concluded: “A door is open for us to reach the people of Mongolia like never before. These same kinds of opportunities also exist around the world as we take the good news of Jesus Christ to those who have never heard His name or don’t understand who He really is.”
