Chaplain Barred from Ministering to Grieving Family

Source: CBN News

A Navy chaplain under fire for expressing his biblical beliefs during a private counseling session has been forbidden from ministering to a grieving family.

When a sailor in his unit died unexpectedly, Chaplain Wes Modder sought to offer the family comfort and spiritual support.

But according to Liberty Institute, Modder's commanding officer, Capt. Jon R. Fahs, issued a "no contact" order barring him from counseling or ministering to any member of his unit or their families.

Capt. Fahs also restricted Modder from entering the Joint Base Charleston grounds on the day of the memorial.

Modder is facing disciplinary action for expressing his faith-based views on marriage and sexuality in a private counseling session. The chaplain petitioned for a religious accommodation to provide pastoral counseling, but that request was denied.

Liberty Institute is defending Modder and asserts that censoring his religious expression is unconstitutional religious discrimination.

The Public Affairs Office at Joint Base Charleston has yet to reply to a CBN News email request for comment.
