In
a newly released video by a jihadist group affiliated with ISIS, the
terror group threatened that the US would “suffer the same fate” as
France should the government continue its military campaign in Syria.
The six-minute video, posted to an ISIS website
on Monday, specifically targeted Washington, DC with threats of
multiple terror attacks. An ISIS terrorist, identified as “Al Ghareeb
the Algerian,” delivered the threats clad in a turban and military-like
uniform.
“We say to the states that take part
in the crusader campaign that, by God, you will have a day, God willing,
like France’s and by God, as we struck France
in the center of its abode in Paris, then we swear that we will strike
America at its center in Washington,” the video warned according to Reuters.
ISIS also issued a warning to “crusader” nations who are taking part
in the US-led coalition striking ISIS strongholds across Syria. “I say
to the European countries that we are coming, coming with booby traps
and explosives, coming with explosive belts and silencers, and you will
be unable to stop us because today we are much stronger than before,” he
said.
In a second video released by the terror group, ISIS threatened New
York City with suicide bombings just as the Thanksgiving holiday season
approaches. A suicide bomber wearing an explosives belt as well as a
bomb are both depicted in the video among the crowded streets of Midtown
Manhattan.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said the goal of the video is
“stoking fear…but New York City will not be intimidated. We will not
submit to their wishes.”
“There is no specific credible threat against New York City.
So it’s crucial that people go about their normal business,” the mayor
told the media on Wednesday. De Blasio emphasized that the NYPD and its
35,000 member team are “providing extraordinary protection” across the
city.
NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said the video was “nothing new” and is a “mishmash of previously released video.”
“In New York we understand that we are a terrorist target, but do not
be afraid,” Bratton stated. “The NYPD will protect you. We will not be
intimidated, and we will not live in fear.”
The release of the videos come six days after an ISIS terror cell
carried out simultaneous attacks in Paris that led to the deaths of 129
people and left more than 350 people injured. In response, French
president Francois Hollande declared war on ISIS, using French warplanes
to strike ISIS positions in Raqqa, Syria on Saturday.
