What Will Your Focus Be After All of This? By: Stephen
Hanson
“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but
one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate
in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible
crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not
as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the
air,” 1 Corinthians 9:24-26.
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so
great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every
weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and
let us run with patience the race that is set before us,”
Hebrews 12:1.
The LORD says, “What will your world be like after the
dust settles after this election? Will the in-fighting
continue? What will be your source of motivation?”
Those are questions we all need to ask of ourselves. We
know that the world is filled with darkness – we know
that oftentimes, what we think are the facts about
certain political things, are difficult to discern.
We know that many of us are divided about the course that
our land should take. But how can we as a people
continue if we are always bickering and arguing among
ourselves, especially when the course of events don’t
transpire as we would want them to?
God’s ways are not our ways, and neither are His thoughts
our thoughts. Are we going to allow this election and
how it all turns out, to continue to fester in our hearts
and minds forever; or will we decide rather to focus on
the things that are above?
A runner keeps his eyes upon the goal ahead, he notices
the roadblocks and the piles of rock, that may obstruct
his path, but if he intends to finish the race, then he
must continue. But he cannot continue if he is always
bogged-down by the heavy weights that he may be carrying.
If he is going to compete in the games, then he must find
a way to lighten his load.
For many have perhaps even dropped out of the race. If
you would look behind you, you would see their exhausted,
tormented figures strewn on the raceway. They are like
abandoned cars that one sees at times along the highway.
Find a way to strengthen that which is inside you.
Regain the purpose and the direction that you once had;
and then put aside every weight and bitterness that you
have carried, and continue onto the destination ahead.
It may appear to be very dark ahead at times, but if you
are wise, you will have your lamps illuminated so that
you can see the road ahead.
Selah,
