Dear Friend
Here is a teaching I recently put together for one of my own children. I hope it is practical and useful.
Blessings David Orton
4 STEPS TO THE PEACE OF GOD -
KEYS TO OVERCOMING ANXIETY
" Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving letyour requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses allcomprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Phi 4:6-7 NASB)
1. Refuse to be anxious
"Be anxious for nothing..."
This is issued as an imperative to obey, not as an option to consider. The choice is ours.
2. Commit everything to God in prayer
"...but in everything..."
No detail is too small or large for God – as our heavenly Father He cares for us and sees very detail of our lives (see Mtt 10:29-31 - every hair of our head is counted and even the smallest bird is cared for).
3. Pray and ask God
"...by prayer and supplication..."
"Ask, and it will be given... For everyone who asks receives... what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he?...how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!" (Mat 7:7-11 NASB)
4. With thanksgiving
"...with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God..."
"And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." (Mat 21:22 NASB)
"Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you." (Mar 11:24 NASB)
Pray in faith by thanking God in advance for the things we ask. Faith is the assurance of things we do not see (see Heb 11:1-2). This way we learn to walk by faith not by sight.
We are freed from the anxieties and the tyranny of this world.
These four steps are commands with a promise .
"…And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
The peace of God is conditional – it depends on our obedience.
The peace of God doesn’t make sense – there are a thousand and one reasons why we should be anxious, but we have peace – it is beyond comprehension!
