Bukenke & Buwaabe Newsletter

Buwaabe
On Sunday, August 9, 2009, at 4:00pm, Advancing the Kingdom held it’s first service at the new church in the village of Buwaabe. We put up a temporary open structure and covered with one of our tent canopies. We needed a place quickly for about 100 new Christians to worship, in this village about one hour walk from the main church in Nawansega. There were enough wooden benches for 50 people to sit on, and the rest sit on mats that cover the dirt floor.

Six weeks later, the people have outgrown this structure. We immediately went to work to add another 20 feet to the end of the church. This addition will accommodate an additional 100 people. This week we are replacing the canopy with iron sheets. You might think that this could be done in a couple of days, but where there is no electricity, there are no power tools.

Over the past year, Advancing The Kingdom outreach teams have ministered to the people in Buwaabe, and as we spoke about the Kingdom of God being near, many miracles have happened and the people witnessed the power of God.

1. A young woman was considered demon possessed because her husband forced her to eat herbs that the witchdoctor had prepared and cursed. He wanted his wife “stay in line” as the husband took another wife. The young woman was totally, miraculously set free by the power of God. She is not longer being controlled by an absentee husband.

2. A woman about 85 years lay on her bed, so sick, ready to die….family was gathering and grave clothes were made ready for her. She and her relatives were having an argument: Was she to be buried as a Christian or was she to be buried according to the dictates of the ancestral religion? The ATK team came to pray, and she was healed. These days, she waves those grave clothes over her head, praising God who raised her from her from her deathbed!! Recently, we were not able to provide her with transportation to the church. She said she would walk – more than 30 minutes for her – for she said she could not miss prayers! When she comes to church, she loves to dance!

3. A young boy, 10 years, named Noah, who fell from a mango tree and split his stomach
wide open. No one thought he would survive. Noah, barely alive, whispers “Jesus,
help me” as he was taken to the hospital. Even the nurses and doctors said they have
not seen such faith in a young boy as Jesus put Noah back together again. Today Noah
has a ten inch scar on his stomach, worships God with intensity and prays with an
authority seldom seen. He is rapidly learning and understanding the Word of God.

4. A young boy named Enoch was around 2-1/2 years. He had never walked and seemingly would never learn to walk. His mother brought him to several of our team members. As they prayed, the boy was set free and began to walk. Today he runs and walks everywhere as a normal boy should!!

These are just four of the stories that birthed the Buwaabe church. God always wants to make Himself known and to dwell among His people.

Bukenke
There was a miracle of a 16 year old girl was the spark that began this church.

Early in 2008 the ATK outreach team of three left the mission base for a day of outreach/evangelism. As they walked the narrow road greeting people, a lady stopped them to ask if they would go to pray for a young girl who had gone mad for the past week and a half.

The lady was afraid to go along, but just directed the team where they would find this 16 year old girl named Lydia. When they reached Lydia, she was restrained, and under supervision because she had become so mad, that people were afraid of Lydia attacking them.

Margaret said “let her go”. The 30 people watching said “no, she will run, she has already jumped through the thatched roof and broken windows” As our team began to pray, the crowd grew to 50. They began mocking, saying “what can your God do to help this girl?”

Fred rose up, and said “Satan, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus!” Lydia flew back about 5 feet and was instantly set free. After that demonstration of the power of God, the people were ready to hear about the God who set this girl free. Fred told the people about the God who wants to be near, and everyone received Jesus as their Savior.

Advancing The Kingdom began a weekly bible study in Bukenke which is attended by 30-60 people. One of the local Sorcerers began to attend the study and as our teams prayed weekly for so many people, he observed something: The power of this God was much stronger than any of the Spirits of the Ancestors that he was in communion with.

This year, the former sorcerer donated one full acre of land to Advancing The Kingdom Ministries, with the hope that ATK could construct 1. A School, 2. A Bore Hole (Water Well) and 3. A Church.

We are currently in the process of obtaining Free Hold Title for the land, a long process costing a minimum of $1000. Then we are hoping to begin the development of the land.

Would you be willing to help with this project? A bore hole is approximately $5,000. A Church would be $5,000 for a temporary structure and $10,000 for a structure with 3 rooms and a better floor. We are looking to find some assistance for construction and management of a school.

Bukenke is a very isolated community. The nearest primary school is a one hour walk, the better school is 90 minutes. Most children do not go to school. For water, the residents walk 20 minutes or more unless they obtain water from either a natural spring (polluted water when it rains) or from a hole they dig to harvest rain water until it is gone.

You can help the residents of this community to construct a source of clean, safe drinking water with your donation.

I am so eager to tell you of the personal development of the ever growing group of young people whom this ministry is raising up to do the work of God. I will do this in another newsletter.

May the Creator of the Universe pour out His blessings upon you and enable and empower you to bring the Life of Heaven to all of His creation.

For now, Reporting from Uganda
