Thousands of Christians from across the United States converged on Philadelphia's Independence Mall in a rally to spark a spiritual revival as the nation approaches Election Day.
The event was called "America for Jesus 2012" and it began Friday evening. The sounds of prayer and praise pierced the overcast skies in Philadelphia, the birthplace of our nation as Christians called out to God to forgive the nation's sins and return our land to its biblical roots.
"We are sufficient," Dr. Bill Hamon, founder of Christian International Ministries, told the crowd. "We are enough to change this nation. We can do it today!"
Many believe these are critical days for America and that prayer will make the difference.
Bishop Anne Gimenez of Rock Church International in Virginia Beach, Va., helped to organize the two-day event in Philadelphia.
"I'm expecting a spiritual awakening to happen," she said. "You know, a great ship doesn't turn on a dime, but when they start to turn at first, you don't feel it, and then all of a sudden, you realize, ever been on a cruise, we're turning around."
Christian Broadcasting Network founder Pat Robertson was among the speakers. He called America the greatest country on earth but said we need unity to stay strong.
"Jesus said, a house divided against itself cannot stand and a Kingdom divided against itself cannot endure. We must come together as one people, as one nation under God," he admonished.
Jonathan Cahn, author of the novel The Harbinger, told the audience, "America's hope is not a president. It's not an economy; it's not a military. Our hope is Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah whose name means salvation."
And messianic Jew Sid Roth urged America to keep standing with Israel. Referencing Obadiah 1:15, he said, "As you have done to Israel - it will be done to the United States of America."
Dozens of speakers were asked to pray that America be delivered from the seven deadly sins destroying the country: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and slothfulness.
"All across this nation Lord, from the north, the south, the east and the west, Lord, that your people would be strong in this hour" speaker Denise Passero prayed, "That we would not be slothful God, that we would not put our heads in the sand Father."
"We'll mark this day in the annals and history of the church that the nation began to turn back toward God," Bishop Gimenez said.
Organizers say they will hold another gathering in Washington on Oct. 20, two weeks before the Nov. 6 presidential election.
