Jews for Jesus: In Your Face -- With a Smile
Group proves that handing out tracts on street corners as a method of evangelism is still effective.
This summer Jews for Jesus missionaries handed out 318,000 "broadsides" -- gospel tracts -- in Marseilles, France.
During the two-week campaign they gathered the names of 676 people who wanted to hear more about Jesus -- 354 Jews and 322 Gentiles. So far, two Jews have become followers of Christ, as well as 13 Gentiles.
The only Muslim-related violence to report was a rock thrown at one of the Jews for Jesus vans.
The New York City Summer Witnessing Campaign is still going on. Thus far, campaigners have handed out 317,860 broadsides. Fifty-four unbelieving Jewish people and 233 unbelieving Gentiles have given their contact information to hear more.
After the mission got under way, one missionary prayed for more contacts. As a result, all afternoon, before she could finish filling out one contact card, someone else was there who wanted to know more.
Earlier this month in Australia, the window of the Jews for Jesus storefront in Sydney was shattered by a young person who threw a rock.
While this kind of attention is never welcome or sought, JFJ says it can still be used to God's glory. As a result of the vandalism, two newspaper articles and one national television story made the public aware of the existence of JFJ. Sydney branch leader Bob Mendelsohn reports that several unbelieving Jewish people dropped by the storefront specifically as a result of hearing about the incident.
