Congressmen Show Support for Praying Football Coach

Source: CBN News

Members of Congress are weighing in on the case of a high school football coach in Washington who could be fired for praying after games on the 50 yard line.

On Tuesday, Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va., and Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., led 47 members of Congress in a letter to the Bremerton School District in support of Coach Joe Kennedy.

The school board has told Kennedy if he doesn't stop praying after games he could be fired. They have forbidden from bowing his head, taking a knee, or doing anything that might be considered religious.

Coach Kennedy said the action is a violation of his religious freedom.

"It's a gross violation of the law," Liberty Institute's Jerry Dys said. Liberty Institute is representing Kennedy in a lawsuit against the school district.

"This same opinion would prevent a Jewish teacher from wearing a yarmulke. It would prevent anyone from wearing a cross around their neck, or perhaps even saying 'God bless you' when someone sneezes in the classroom," Dys said.

"I think the American publish is fed up with this overreaction to anytime anybody is religious in this country," he said.

What will Coach Joe do this Friday night? Click play to watch the entire interview with Dys and find out.
