Bob Hartley is the founder of Hartley Institute/Deeper Waters Ministry in Kansas City, MO, inspired through a dream the Lord gave to Bob more than a decade where the Lord spoke that the “The Youth of this nation are diving into ‘shallow waters’ of the knowledge of God and it is killing them!”
Bob served as a pastor at Metro Christian Fellowship before entering the marketplace in 1983, with a vision to see the marketplace redeemed and cities established that value and love the person of Jesus.
He is the Chief Executive Officer of the Hartley Group, a “Hope Center” for the marketplace, consisting of Hartley’s Executive Cleaning, Swift Chemicals & Supply, Prize Properties and H&H Management in Kansas City, MO.
Bob is a frequent speaker to businessmen and businesswomen throughout America and the world. His quest has been to bring the Kingdom of God into the Market place and give spiritual tools and equipping to those seeking to know and love God in the midst of their everyday lives. The Visitation
I had a visitation from the Lord on February 15, 2008. This was one of the most intense encounters I have ever had. It is difficult for me to clearly communicate this encounter because of the intensity of the awe of the Lord and the glory of the Lord that surrounded it. Personally, I am used to being visited with the affection of the Lord, but this encounter was entirely different. There was no other focus beside Him. This encounter was about FACT, FACT, FACT of who God was. At the core, I was confronted with the pure worthiness of God and challenged to see Him valued in every arena of life in the marketplace. I was aware that this visit was not about anyone except Him!
In this encounter the fear, awe and magnificence of the Lord came upon me as the room filled with His presence. As He entered the room, the fear of the Lord filled the atmosphere. It was as if I was no longer in the room, but instead was taken to another place. The angelic escort said to me, “It’s all about Jesus. Not about you, or any of your concerns, it’s all about Jesus.” I was struck with the revelation that He is all that is to be considered in this hour. I was instantly aware that this visitation was not about people and purposes. It was all about Him and our ability to focus on and reflect His glory. This encounter had five parts that were progressive and ultimately led to a solution for the value of Jesus to be restored in the marketplace
FACT #1: The Supremacy and depth of His All Consuming Value. The first fact that I heard and felt through this visitation was that the Lord Himself is “All in All”. I saw the Lord Jesus standing and in the palm of His hand everything on the earth was resting. All of the weighty issues of the earth, the nations, the economy, governments, pre-elections, and terrorism, etc. were held there. They were all big to me, but so little to Him. Suddenly all these things began to shrink until they fit into the palm of His hand. Then I saw every person on the earth also in His hand. All of their weighty concerns, issues, tragedies, relationships, decisions, needs, etc. And they too began to shrink until they all fit into the palm of His hand. Then I saw the entire universe, the stars and the galaxies, and they too shrank until they fit into the palm of His hand.
My focus shifted to angelic criers that were terrifying in their stature. But even they were less than one millionth of His glory! These angels began to declare facts about the Lord, but the greatest truth of who He was emanated from Himself in a way I do not know how to explain. He was the focal point of all the heavenly realm and I received a totally captivating view of His all-consuming value and worth. I was encountering screeching inside and lost my voice outside for a day!
It was the most consuming feeling, as I stood in His presence, to feel the power of the Lord and to know that He was the supreme authority on the earth. He just “WAS”… and in His being, all authority and power belonged to Him. His presence provoked entire submission to Him. The fact that “He was everything” and was beyond all things that were created, caused the reverence of the Lord to overcome me. The Lord was transcendent before my eyes and appeared in a manner beyond description.
FACT #2: God reveals the Utter Ignorance of all Human Beings to the Value of Him. I was then deeply aware that all of humanity lacked understanding and were totally ignorant of the value of God on earth, His incredible, majestic, terrifying glory in history in the heavens, in their homes and in the marketplace. As I experienced this encounter with the supremacy of the Lord, I had missed my purpose. This was to be the one thing that I was consumed with – Him! During this encounter, light, life and holy penetration saturated my spirit. The Lord repeated over and over to me that He was all that I and the nations needed.
I knew that we needed to identify with His desires; it was no longer to be about what we desire, not even about what we could do for Him, but what He desired and the priorities of His heart. He spoke about a number of my friends who were making major decisions and said, “They didn’t even ask Me.” He spoke about people who had walked in their purposes but had never asked Him what His purpose was. They had been distracted by godly purposes from the centrality of the person of Jesus and His heart and His desires.
FACT #3: All of Life is a Test of How We Respond to His Value and His Will. It was clear to me through the intensity of the encounter, and the thoughts emanating from the angelic criers that all of life is a test of our response to Him – will we look at our desires and our circumstances versus Him and His will. He was beyond fear; He was the fact. And this life was just the shortest test. These angels said that currently, in our response to our issues, we had lost the value of Him and placed more value on our circumstances and our own will. These angels were “seemingly surprised” by how humans were tripping in a level place, because in reality the tests of this life weren’t that difficult to them. But, people had magnified their problems and fears, thus confining themselves to prisons of their own making. They had done it to themselves. This was the fact that emanated from the presence of God that He would leave them in their prisons until they responded to Him. It was their choice.
These “Angelic hosts” were saying the only place of clarity of priorities came from looking into His face. All of man’s priorities were distorted away from Him when they did not look into His face and His nature. It was time to take our eyes off ourselves and set on our eyes upon His glory. Only then, can we pass the tests.
I then saw three groups of people; the elderly, ministers, and marketplace people. In each arena, there were tests that gave people the opportunity to respond to the value of His supreme beauty. If they sought correctly, they would pass the tests of priority and prostrate themselves before God to gain true wisdom. The question now became whether or not these leaders would choose to bow low in the presence of the Lord.
FACT #4: The calling out of people groups by the Lord (City leaders, Elderly, the Political Arena, and Ministers).
City Leaders
The first group the Lord called out were the “City Leaders”. This was a corrective call because it was to correct their course and to cause them to put the appropriate value on Him and His will. They were not in the appropriate places asking the appropriate questions. Around them, there was feeling of the total neglect of the nature of God and a disregard to His leadership. There was such a lack of interest in the desires and nature of God.
The Elderly
This is somewhat out of the ordinary, because in the past the Lord always spoke with tenderness, concerning the elderly. But in this encounter everything was different. The Lord took a much different tone toward the elderly in saying that they had mistaken the test of the importance of their value to Him. He cared for them so well and instead they allowed themselves to become victims. They missed their responsibility in this test to sow His nature into children and to keep the connection between the generations. They had mistaken the value of the time He had allotted to them, and missed some of the opportunity to be a reflection of Him to their children’s children. They missed their responsibility in this test to sow His nature into their children and to keep the connection between the generations. In His eyes, they had become the ones that owed Him the most, because He had cared for them so well, but instead they allowed themselves to become victims in their own minds. He strongly rebuked the elderly lifestyle, saying that they had become consumers, focused more on what they felt they deserved rather than what was on His heart for the remaining years of their life.
The Messengers
Then Jesus also spoke about ministers. He said His messengers are currently more concerned with delivery (vehicles) and continuity with their personal messages as their priority, and had neglected placing value upon His voice. They preached their messages, but never asked Him what He wanted them to say. Because their focus was off, they were not able to minister in their cities (their arenas of life). They needed to refocus on His thoughts to establish their agendas and their concerns on the direct word of God. We have been so concerned with our accuracy that we don’t value the ability of God to exceed all human understanding! We seek out wisdom, but refuse to allow God to reveal Himself in mysteries because we often want everything to be orderly, structured and explained. We throw out the mysteries of the Lord and miss the opportunity to piece it together!
The Political Arena
The political arena was the next arena addressed by the Lord. I saw the political arena had a massive wall surrounding it and gatekeepers positioned on the wall. The Lord said that the fault with the gatekeepers is that they were not asking Him about His plan for the political arena. Some had a vision from God about how things were to be, but they were doing it according to man’s methods. This really grieved me because they didn’t properly value the Lord’s authority. The warning that came forth was, “Woe to them to act without consulting the Lord and knowing what His purpose is.” If they sought correctly, they would pass the tests of priority and prostrate themselves as the foot of the mountains to gain true wisdom.
FACT #5 Then Jesus Spoke to Marketplace People
Jesus then addressed the marketplace said that marketplace people had lived selfish lives and they would suffer lack. He said that they had sowed without generosity and would reap scarcity. He said marketplace people had become deists who acknowledged there was God but built without consulting Him. They did not trust or rely on Him. They had developed their own purposes, instead of listening and where they had gotten His heart, they had built in man’s strength. God’s answer to restoring the value of Jesus in the marketplace was becoming ‘marketplace reformers’ who lived the Daniel lifestyle (In next month’s article, we will explore this in depth).
Conclusion: Mandate to Get Prostate
We must have a completely different way of living our lives – that of taking everything before Him and considering Him and His desires chiefly. When we experience the terrible beauty of the Lord, it causes us to realize the value of His heart to a greater magnitude. As we gaze upon this One, we connect with His heart and bring forth a completely different mode of prayer – “Identification Prayer” – connecting with His heart first and praying from that understanding. We then would understand what it means to be a follower of Him. This would bring greater understanding of what it means to be a follower of Him, listening to His heart and considering His ways and desires above all else. We are being called to a mandate to totally, utterly and uniquely put our mouths in the dust and get prostrate before the Lord and to consider His ways above all. God wants to establish the Daniel’s in the land, but currently there next to NO living examples that fully understand the meaning of this lifestyle. There are many who have concepts, but none with the true revelation to walk it out.
This year is to be a year where we satisfy Him with love. This is the call to “Marketplace Controllers” – people in the marketplace who try to control their own lives. Jesus is the fairest of ten-thousand, ten-million, ten-billion! He wants to be recognized! And all of our lives are to be lived to Adore Him!
After reading this, we should all fall on our faces and lay prostrate before Him! All of our other thinking needs to cease!
