The Captive Audience.
When the performance is a barrier - the Glory as the Focus.
The Lord impressed upon me the need for the body of Christ to reach an audience.
How is an audience really reached?
In order for an audience to be reached, to be touched, they cannot be a captive audience.
Captive Audience - "Listeners or onlookers who have no choice but to attend. For example, It's a required course and, knowing he has a captive audience, the professor rambles on endlessly."
In order for an audience to be reached they must be allowed to participate in the message being given. If it is a movie the audience is reached when they are drawn into the story unfolding on the screen. If it is a teacher the "audience" is reached by putting into practice what the "teacher" has shown. If it is a father or mother the children are reached again by the promise of participation.
An audience is not reached when they are forced to be an audience.
The Lord desires the body of Christ to be able to reach an audience.
When the message from the "stage" is 'come up here with me' - then the audience will truly be reached.
In this same manner the world becomes alive to us when we are allowed to be present (on stage)without performance, without shame.
John 15:15
"I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father."
God's Glory, His Affection is True Center Stage.
So the conundrum is the spot-light, the Glory - the focus - attention - all being about perspective.
A spot-light is for clarity but if a person is to wounded will shy away from it, or if to prideful will misdirect the focus - will misdirect the real spot-light ...
the focus becomes glory for glories sake -
that is narcissism - a mirror.
A real spot light is to accentuate connection.
The powers that be twist the meaning of healing itself.
