Vision: The Running Shoes
17th March 2014
I saw this vision yesterday.
A man was readying himself, for his daily run. As he sat down to tie his shoe-laces, his eyes fell on his running shoes. He was shocked to see that his one and only pair of running shoes were on this day, ten times larger than his normal size. His prayer had always been for growth, but this sudden growth had the man stunned. The shoes had grown but not his feet.
His feet felt so small in these out-sized running shoes. How could he be expected to run in them? He felt sure he couldn’t even walk in them without tripping over.
After spending quite some time puzzling over the size of his shoes, he rose to his feet. The moment he stood up, his feet immediately filled the shoes.
As long as he stayed seated his feet did not grow. It was only when he stood up, that his feet filled the shoes.
This man did not know that in all the years he’d been faithfully running, his feet and shoes had been growing regularly, but only a little at a time. This past growth had gone unnoticed by him; but now the size of his shoes had grown to such an extent that he could see it.
Faithful runners world over had received shoes ten times larger. All were reacting in much the same way.
Now, world over, there were also those who had been called to run, but they chose not to. Leaving their shoes on the floor, they sat barefoot in their basements with groups of people, chatting, discussing. They did not budge from their cellars for years. Out of their little window, the group could see the faithful runners out and about no matter the weather; however the basement dwellers were not inclined to run. Over time, they were joined by a few had chosen to run, but then got weary.
As they sat conversing, suddenly through the basement window, to their utter amazement they now saw those enormous sized shoes run past. They were aghast. They gasped, “Look! They’ve turned into monsters.”
Their eyes now turned to their own running shoes which lay on the floor, gathering dust. The atmosphere had caused their running shoes to stiffen, shrink and crack.
They gazed in horror at their bare feet, covered in sores.
Some remained seated, and consoled themselves, “Ah, not to worry, time will heal”.
Others wept.
Suddenly, these weeping ones began to feel uncomfortable, in their chairs. They pulled out the folded banner they had tucked away under the cushion, years ago.
Tears of joy filled their hearts as they recalled waving this banner. It was one they used to run with, years ago. They quickly unfolded it.
They jumped to their feet, with excitement, as they read the Word emblazoned upon it.
Hosea 10:12
Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
These banner carriers grabbed their running shoes and raced out of the basement.
It was raining heavily outside. The rain washed away the dust from their shoes and their feet did not hurt as they ran.
Waving their banners, the runners loudly proclaimed to the passers-by, “do you know what time it is? It is time to seek the Lord.”
Psalm 75:6-7
6 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.
7 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
