Intercession
Wade E Taylor

“But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when
you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in
secret; and your Father who sees in secret shall reward
you openly.” Matthew 6:6

This speaks of the importance and the power of private,
personal prayer.

To go into our “closet” and shut the door in order to
pray is a very private, personal experience. Here, in
the privacy of our “set apart place” of prayer, we can
express our heart to the Lord. To express our deep inner
desires and feelings in prayer, is as medicine to our
soul. But there is a greater and more important
blessing. Our Heavenly Father hears our secret prayer,
and He will openly reward us.

Because no one is involved in our “shut in” time, we can
come aside and pray at any time. We “choose” when to
pray.

However, intercession is quite different; we “respond” to
an intercessory burden which “impregnates” us, and we
intercede until it is “birthed.”

This speaks of the importance and power of private,
personal intercession.

“Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we
know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the
Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings
which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26

We must respond when this impartation of an “intercessory
burden” takes place. Thus, the price of our being an
intercessor is very high, as it intrudes upon our time
and personal desires. This intercession may come with
deep groanings, as in a birthing process. As much as
possible this should be done in private. If in a
gathering of the saints, quietly slip out into a private
place to give birth to the intercessory process.

I can say, “I will pray now,” or, “I will wait and pray
later.” I cannot say, “I will intercede,” either now, or
later. I can only say, “I will respond to an
intercessory burden, if I am moved upon by the Holy
Spirit to intercede.”

Intercession is at the heart of the end-time intervention
of our Lord. It is the “enabling” that will release and
make a way for the Lord to enter the affairs of man.
Just as John the Baptist was raised up as a “forerunner”
of the birth and ministry of Jesus, so also, in our day a
corporate John (intercessors) are being raised up.

“And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman
clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and
upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with
child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be
delivered.” Revelation 12:1-2

These intercessors will become a “gateway” through whom
the Lord will be able to greatly affect and alter the
affairs of individuals and nations, in order to prepare
them for their place and function in the Millennial
Kingdom of God.

“And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all
nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up
to God, and to His Throne.” Revelation 12:5

This “man-child” does not refer to the birth of Jesus two
thousand years ago in a manger. Rather, the Book of
Revelation is a revelation of “things which must shortly
come to pass” (Revelation 1:1). It is a revelation of
the future, not an affirmation of the past.

This “man-child” is a fully matured and qualified body
(overcomers), of whom Jesus has become the active head.
This “catching up” can be thought of as being a
“rapture,” not away from the earth in escape, but our
being “lifted” to rule nations in power, and authority
with consequence.

The “woman” who gives birth to this “man-child” is a
committed body of intercessors, within the present day
Church. She is clothed with the sun (Son) and has the
moon under her feet. That is, she is receiving direct
(sun) revelation from the Lord, being impregnated
directly by Him for intercession, rather than moving in
reflected, indirect (moon) revelation, that is received
from others.

Being birthed through intercession and caught up into a
higher realm, these are “ruling with the rod of iron.”
This speaks of end-time authority, which is imparted to a
body of overcomers whom the Lord has prepared to rightly
use this authority. These ruling “overcomers” will bring
tribulation to the un-godly, and impart righteousness,
peace, and joy to the godly. This will lead into the
establishing of the Millennial Kingdom of our Lord Jesus
Christ.

“And they sang a new song, saying, You are worthy to take
the book, and to open the seals thereof: for You were
slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of
every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And
has made us to our God kings and priests: and we shall
reign on the earth.” Revelation 5:9-10

This body of overcomers is being birthed from within the
church of our day, and is presently being lifted in
intercessory anointing, to bring forth the end-time
birthing of the purpose of our Lord.

May each of us, who are feeling these birth pains,
understand, and rightly respond. And if not, may we
present ourselves to the Lord as being willing to become
an intercessor.

What is the difference of being an intercessor and the pray without
ceasing/pray about everything scriptures?

If the entire body of Christ is called to pray about all things and without
ceasing then why is there in individual calling of intercessor? And where
is the scriptural backing for being an intercessor or 'having the gift of
intercession'?

One thing I've noticed is that intercessory prayer groups are a) mostly
filled with women and b) small. Why is this? If we're all called to , again
pray without ceasing and about all things, then why are the prayer
groups so small and the work being done by mostly women?

I've noticed over the years that people talk in these almost hushed tones
about individuals having the gift of intercession and it always bothered
me. Everyone in the body of Christ is supposed to be praying all the
time. Have we sluffed off our duties and handed them over to a few to
carry prayer burdens that they aren't supposed to be carrying, or devote
such large amount of prayer time to? Or has God really given individuals
specific titles of intercessor? Or has He done this because the Church is
not doing their job?

If this was repetitive please forgive me. These are questions I've had for
a long time.

Thanks.

I don't I have all the answers either.I understand your
frustration.I guess we just all need to obey the Lord and
pray as he leads. It says in the book of Jeremiah 6 Ask ye
now, and see whether a man doth travail with child?
wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins,
as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into
paleness?
7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it:
it is even the time of Jacob's trouble, but he shall be
saved out of it.

8 For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord
of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck,
and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more
serve themselves of him:

The passage mentions Jacob's trouble but he shall be
saved from it.To me that means through prayer. And yes men
are called to intercede too.Like I said I don't know
everything neither God is showing me a travail is coming
forth on the bride like we have never seen.

Karen,
I think there are many types/varieties of intercessors.
I believe I was saw a book by Tommie Femrite in which 7/8 types were discussed.

This post really spoke to me and confirmed some things I have been hearing.
My first experience with intercessory prayer as described in the post, was during a very huge trial in my life. I was a lukewarm Christian at the time, and when my trial began I soon found myself running to Jesus. My life of course was changing drastically, on one hand my husband had left, and I was devastated, on the other hand my new relationship in Jesus was so exciting and I could hear Him like never before. So, in the midst of the worse time of my life I was having the best time in my life.
Within a month of my new situation, in which I found myself praying as soon as I got up, praying in my car all the way to work, during lunch break and on drive back home, as soon I would walk into my now empty home, before I did anything else I would offer myself to the Lord. This is what I felt led to do at this time (and this from the intense need to be in prayer and hear from the Lord, because I was also being attacked by the enemy who sought to do nothing but discourage me)and soon I would have weeping and groaning begin in me, and I simply gave myself to this, not knowing what I was interceding for, and that wasn't a concern, I just let this all play out until the weeping ended. This was a daily thing for months. I moved back home not long after this, and my son lived with me for a while. I no longer offered myself this way. This was in 2000. Then the following summer I moved into my Grandparents house, which was empty and I was alone.
On September 10, 2001 I remember walking into the house that evening, having just got home from work. For the first time since moving back to my home state, I got no further than the living room, and had this urge to drop to my knees in front of the couch, and the weeping that I had experienced all that time before moving came.
I felt kind of shocked as I got up from the floor, and asked myself-what brought that on? I have to conclude because of the timing that it had to do with the 9/11 attacks. I have not given myself to this since. This is my fault.
But, now there is a great change that is upon us all, and offering ourselves will be the new normal, I believe. Is everyone called to do this? I don't know, but, maybe all may have some experience with this from time to time. While others will simply, by following the lead of the Holy Spirit, find this a daily part of their lives in Jesus Christ.

The Lord shares his burdens with those who are intimate
with him and want to care for what he cares for.I just
want to know him and his heart it's that simple.

I have always wondered the same thing myself. People tell
me that I am "called" to be an intercessor & I tell them
that everyone is called but not everyone answers.
Isa 59:16 says that the Lord looked but could not find an
intercessor.
I agree Karen, that the Lord is going to move upon people
in these days to intercede & birth forth many souls into
the kingdom. But it is like Roxanne says, we do have to
make ourselves available. I also believe that you are
correct Stacy, in that the church, as a whole, is not doing
what we should be doing

If this was repetitive please forgive me. These are questions I've had for
a long time.
---------------------------------------------------------

In first Timothy chapter 2: 1 we find: I exhort therefore, that, first of all,
supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all
men...
We can see that there are different kind of prayers as well as there are
different types of gifts but the Spirit is the same and The Spirit who
apportions to each one individually as He wants.
1 Corinthians 12 -

Prayer is conversation with God either it is verbal, mental, corporately,
constant or occasional.

Intercession is more than prayer - its to plead with God on behalf of others, a
nation, situation, etc... and not to give up until God's will come to pass.

Intercession is warfare - For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but
against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of
this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 6:12

Intercession is in the heart of God - So I sought for a man among them who
would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land,
that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Ezekiel 22:30

Jesus is our best example of an intercessor both while he was here on earth
and now that He is with the Father - Therefore He is also able to save to the
uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to
make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25

Through all the Word of God we can see many examples of intercessors -
beginning with Abraham when he was interceding on behalf of Sodoma
(Genesis 18:1-33)
. Moses interceding before God for Israel while Joshua was in the battle and
God gave the victory. Ex.17: 8-16
. Daniel
. Esther
. Samuel
. Nehemiah
. Elijah
etc...

Should we say that because it's not written exactly as a gift it is not?
No, because like of when we all are told to prophecy we all don't have the
gift of prophecy or we all are to practice hospitality we all don't have the gift,
or giving, etc.., So it is with prayer - we all are told to pray and pray without
ceasing; But not all are intercessors not all have the capacity given by The
Holy Spirit to have the heart of God to intercede and have been called by God
for this purpose.
Does it mean that intercessors are more than anyone else? No, we simply
have a different call in our lives and we must guard our hearts -
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value
others above yourselves ( Philippians 2:3)

And yes you are saying right the church has failed to pray and the Holy Spirit
is making a call to the church to awaken to pray and to holiness and it's sad
when going to prayer meetings and see just a few mostly woman there. But
not all is lost truth be said there are many both men and women -
intercessors - that along with their brothers and sisters in Christ are still
believing in God to intervene and partner with God for the salvation of many.

Stacy I have tried to answer your questions as best as I can but as I always say
the only one that can direct you to all truth is the Holy Spirit. I'll pray for you
and who knows perhaps he is guiding you to a prayer life.

I do recommend you a very good book - Rees Howells Intercessor - It's a
biography of his life.

Be very blessed dear sister.

Ty Pura for the scripture references 1 Tim 2:1 does puts
a difference there.I could not find it.I liked what you
said, "Intercession is more than prayer - its to plead
with God on behalf of others, a
nation, situation, etc... and not to give up until God's
will come to pass."
Please pray for the Western states they are in desperate

Pura,

Thanks for the reply and taking the time to post all that. Will take down
some notes of your explanations.

The Rees Howells book, Intercessor, I've been reading off and on this
past year. That is one HEAVY book! What I mean is that it shows the
holiness of the Holy Spirit and how He's not to be taken lightly. I'm only
able to read just bits of it and have to put it down each time to think
about what I just read. To think about the way my life will and has to
change if I'm to walk with the HS. The book is so exciting to see how
prayer, when directed by the Holy Spirit, changes things and changed
history. It shows how we've fallen short as well when it comes to our
prayer lives as believers, mine included.

Thanks all for the replies. Sorry if I hijacked the thread, it was not my
intention.
