Jesus
compared the work of the Holy Spirit in our new creature spirit to the
invisible force of wind. Both Spirit and wind are translations of the
same Greek word, pneuma. The wind we can’t see works powerfully in nature. So it is with the Holy Spirit in our new creature.
The wind/pneuma blows
where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it
comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the
Spirit/Pneuma. Jn 3:10 NASB
We
hear the sound of the wind when it is softly stirring the leaves on
trees or when it is roaring at 100 MPH. Back when Jesus spoke those
words, people didn’t know where the wind came from or where it was
going. Now, we know by the weather reports. But, picture yourself in
their shoes. Now, apply Jesus’ mini-parable to the Spirit working in
you.
We can’t see God’s kingdom with new eyes yet
A few sentences prior, Jesus said, “I tell the truth, if anyone isn’t born from above, he can’t see God’s kingdom.” (Jn 3:2 AAT).
We still can’t see the kingdom as we will in our new bodies (1 Cor 15:35-58) in the new heaven and new earth (Rev 21-22), but God has given us faith (Eph 2:8).
Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen. Heb 1:1 ASV
You see, we don’t have a permanent city here but look for the one that’s coming. Heb 13:14 AAT
Currently, the kingdom of God is in the Holy Spirit
For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Ro 14:17 ASV
Right now, we are strengthened by God our Father in the Spirit and Jesus is king
Paul
was wrote to the saints in Colossae that Epaphras had informed himself
and Timothy of their love in the Spirit. That led them to pray this
prayer:
For
this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to
pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His
will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk
in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing
fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
strengthened with all power, according to, for the attaining of all
steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who
has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.
For
He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the
kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness
of sins. Col 1:9-14 NASB
Their prayer reveals much of the work of the Spirit in us.
- That you may be filled with the knowledge of His [God our Father’s] will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
- So that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects.
- Bearing fruit in every good work.
- Increasing in the knowledge of God.
- Strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might.
- For the attaining of all steadfastness and patience.
- Joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.
We can receive and apply their prayer in our lives, “For
He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the
kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness
of sins.”
God’s Word and God’s Spirit minister to our deepest inner being, our spirit
And
we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of
God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but
as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who
believe. 1 Thes 2:13 ISV
God pours his love into our hearts by the Spirit (Ro 5:5).
The
fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things
there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the
flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us
keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking
and envying each other. Gal 5:33-26 ISV
Spread God's Love
