Alcoholic Changes His Life Direction
May 21, 2003

Two years ago the Holy Spirit led our family out with the words, "I'm sending you out as a family." We stepped out to walk the streets of inner Canberra, our nation's captial city.

Within months others began to join us and it continued. Twleve months later a vision of a white van came true. An older couple came and served hot drinks and soup from a roster that many made a commitment to serve on.

Last December one of the youth couples in our street family, Elijah's Thunder, Gerry and Pily began to casually chat with him, and to listen to his talk. He was a violent man who needed Jesus' love very much.

Over four months he continued to come to the street bringing along with him his bag full of 'plonk' and beer. Many times he tried to strike out at others, but again and again we calmed him down and laid hands on him and prayed.

One night after he had raised a pair of scissors towards one of the street family, we prayed over him and reasoned with him from the Word about violence. He immediately responded going to the man he had intended to assault, and repented. Not long after this, he gave his heart to Jesus and began attending the morning service.

As mornings are particularly difficult for him, this was a huge sacrifice and some mornings he couldno't do.

Last Sunday week, he came out for prayer and I had the privilege of ministering to him. The Holy Ghost hit him with tremendous power and did the work that only he can do - set the captives free.

The following week, he found that he drank much less alcohol. He has now enrolled in a C.I.T. course as he is extraordinarily gifted in mathematics.

He still has bad days, but the good days are much more.

After so much prayer and time, Elijahs Thunder has our first man enjoying real freedom.

Glory to Jesus for it all, and we humbly but expectently ask the Lord of the harvest, to send more workers to the field willing to work with us to so many there is a better way. And we bless those who do the work now, coming from six different local fellowships in Canberra, we total only ten but desire for kids to know Jesus.
