TV & RADIO STATIONS AWAITING EVANGELIST'S ARRIVAL
It was Tuesday, December 2, 2003. No sooner than the big jumbo jet landed on the Entebbe, Uganda, International Airport's tarmac, Todd and Fresh Fire Ministry staff were escorted into a VIP room for a quick interview. Journalists, television and radio personnel were riveting questions at Todd like machine gun bullets...."So, what do you expect to accomplish while here in Uganda? What is the purpose of your trip? Are you going to help us with humanitarian aid" What is your take on the HIV? AIDS epidemic here in Uganda? What do you think of homosexuality? What kind of message do you have for the Ugandan people?" .....and on and on! Thank God for the Holy Ghost, as He always gives the right answer for the right moment. Todd was bold in proclaiming Jesus Christ as being the answer for the poverty, the shame, the HIV/AIDS epidemic that Ugandans are facing. And yes, the homosexuals can be set free from their lifestyle of sin, if they repent and come to the foot of the cross. It quickly became evident that Fresh Fire Ministries was not here on a nice little tour, but that we came for the purpose of seeing the dead raised, the blind receiving sight, the deaf hearing, the demonized set free and the lame walking. Todd drew the spiritual line in the sand, right from the "get-go" - And the spiritual war was on!
FRESH FIRE TEAM ARRIVES EXHAUSTED, BUT EXCITED
Nearly 40 people arrived in total from U.S.A., Canada, England and United Arab Emirates, finally checking into the local Grand Imperial Hotel at approximately 2:00 am, Wednesday (Yawn). A small team had already arrived a few days before, now bringing the FFM total to approximately 50. Within just a few hours, team captains were appointed over groups of approximately 8, and away they went. Pastor Fred, a local leader in Kampala, was in charge of all morning out-reaches and had the teams visiting hospitals, primary schools, men's and women's prisons, nursery schools, orphanages, remand homes, "street kids'" hang-outs, and slum areas where the prostitutes, thieves and drunkards live. To say these teams were busy was an understatement.
POWERFUL PROPHETIC WORD OVER UGANDA
Wednesday was the opening night of the crusade. Before a crusade audience of approximately 15-20,000, Todd delivered a strong prophetic word for the nation of Uganda. Todd said, "God is going to make Uganda into a wealthy import/export nation where numerous resources and commodities would be released from this country, as well, the Lord will be sending missionaries to other nations of the world, right here from Uganda. It is time for Uganda to come out from under the past, from the evil rule that Idi Amin inflicted upon the people. God is going to bless Uganda and make the country rich once again." Right on the heels of this prophecy, Todd announced FFM is committed to Uganda, and that we are officially opening our international office here in Kampala. As is the custom for FFM overseas crusades, Todd took authority over the demonic influences in the heavenlies that have dominated these crusade grounds, and claimed them for Jesus Christ, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
MANY DEAF AND DUMB HEAR DURING OPENING NIGHT OF CRUSADE
After evangelist Todd Bentley gave a red hot message on the Kingdom of God being within you, he challenged the people to bring the deaf and dumb, for the purpose of seeing Jesus demonstrate He is still performing miracles today. A little boy came forward for prayer, deaf and mute from birth. The power of God hit him and he was healed "Johnny on the spot". Imagine being able to speak for the very first time. By now, the crowd was fully engaged with cheers and loud shouts, ecstatic over this amazing miracle. Before the evening came to a close, many testified of healings from tumors, blindness, tuberculosis, stomach and hip pains, paralysis etc, etc.
3000+ PASTORS & CHRISTIAN LEADERS UNDER THE BIG, WHITE TENT
Whenever FFM hosts an overseas crusade, the ministry provide for the meals and the accommodation for all those who have registered for the morning meetings. A large white tent was set up for the pastors and Christian leaders, situated adjacent to the FFM crusade stage. Leaders from all over Uganda, Kenya and even as far as the Sudanese border were in attendance. Pastor Henry Schmidt of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada (Todd's first pastor), tag-teamed with evangelist Todd Bentley as the main plenary speakers for the morning sessions. Henry's messages on the Kingdom of God were received with great enthusiasm. There is just something about an African crowd of leaders that stirs up a fresh passion in the American and Canadian guest ministry. Not even a major rain storm filling parts of the tent with 3 inches of rain could stop these precious pastors from participating in the meetings. Everyone just began to sweep the rain outside the tent with make-shift brooms and in no time at all the tent was ready for revival again.
FFM STAFF IMPARTS FRESH FIRE OVER PASTORS AND CHRISTIAN LEADERS
On Saturday evening, Todd invited every pastor and Christian leader under the big white tent to come forward and receive a fresh impartation of the Holy Spirit and fire. Ushers were busy lining everyone up, as one by one, hands were laid on these hungry Ugandan soldiers of the Cross. Many of them began to shake violently with the electricity of God, as the anointing surged through their innermost beings. Ugandan Christian pastors and Christian leaders take evangelism very seriously, and no sooner than the impartation meeting was over, we could see them going to busy intersections urging the passers-by and those in vehicles to come to Jesus Christ. Glory to God! Uganda will never be the same.
FFM SIGNS TV CONTRACT WITH LTV - TBN AFFILIATE
One of the most effective ways to reach the Ugandan people is through TV and radio. A miracle transpired for FFM, in that we were able to launch our first TV show, entitled "Journey Into the Miraculous With Todd Bentley". Beginning in January 2004, this show will air twice weekly before a potential audience of 2.5+ million viewers. FFM signed a one year contract with LTV network and will be using our Kampala, Uganda international office as a resource and phone center for any calls coming in. Gary Everett, station manager of Lighthouse Television, was excited to hear of the many testimonies coming from the crusades, and the entire television crew asked Todd to pray for them for a special Holy Ghost impartation. There were also many live radio interviews that Todd spoke at. In one particular case, at one of the larger radio networks in Kampala, the phones were jammed with calls immediately after Todd shared his testimony live on the program. As soon as the lines were opened, over 30 calls came in requesting prayer within the first few minutes. Reports were given to us indicating many accepted Jesus into their hearts by listening to the radio. We claimed the airwaves for the Kingdom of God.
HUNDREDS SET FREE FROM DEMON POWERS OF WITCHCRAFT
One one particular crusade night, Todd was impressed to break the spirit of Python over the people of Kampala. Many Ugandan Christians dabble in witchcraft, even they are born again and regularly attend church. As the Word was being preached, dozens of demon-possessed were being carried by the ushers to the front of the stage. Talk about pandemonium breaking out! Over 120 individuals were on the ground, some writhing like snakes. Undaunted by the commotion, Todd continued to preach the uncompromised word of deliverance over the people, and one by one true freedom would enter their hearts and minds. As well, over 300 demon-possessed were escorted to the big, white tent where qualified counselors ministered deliverance to each one.
RAGING STORM IN THE NIGHT WRECKS FFM STAGE
To be sure, the enemy of darkness was disturbed by the awesome deliverances taking place on a nightly basis. On the morning after the massive deliverance escapade, we were told by a very disheartened Ugandan stage crew that due to a vicious storm in the night, the stage was in absolute shambles. The metal bars, which provided the main skeleton and strength for the stage, were twisted like pretzels. Banners advertising the meeting were torn to shreds. Yes, the storms that rage against us may temporarily knock us down, but the Bible tells us that we are overcomers, and "overcome" we did. In no time at all, volunteers were busy putting the stage and tent back to their original places, and by the time the evening crusade worship team was scheduled to sing, all systems were go. Once again, the miracles, signs and wonders took place.
OVER 50,000 ATTEND FINAL NIGHT
What a sight to behold! Over 50,000 were in attendance on Sunday, the final night of the crusade. There was electricity in the air as Todd preached on the Kingdom of God and the demonstration of His power. A large colorful portal could be seen in the sky above the crusade grounds, symbolizing an open heaven. Nearly 900 responded to the altar call, and when Todd later gave an invitation for those desiring the baptism of the Holy Spirit, well over 10,000 responded. This was overwhelming to say the least. Within short order, a Holy Ghost party broke out, both on the stage platform and on the crusade grounds. You could see hundreds of people waving hankies in the air dancing with joy and jubilation.
OVER 1000 BAPTIZED IN WATER
Over 200 pastors in Kampala were networking together to ensure the success of this FFM crusade. Gerald Mwebe, our international African Coordinator, reported that over 1000 individuals were baptized the following morning at a special meeting held at 8:00 AM. Once again, the Lord added to the church daily those that were to be saved. To God be the glory!
