I was on a mission. It was early 1999 and I had a story to tell. A group of Pastors were gathering for their weekly prayer meeting in the sleepy East Texas town of Kirbyville. I drove from Fort Worth to have breakfast with this group, most of whom I had known for several years. Leading the group was Pastor Charles Burchett of First Baptist Church. After breakfast at a local restaurant we went to his office to pray. As the meeting started he asked me to take the seat behind his desk. He introduced me to those who didn't know me and said that I had something to say then he turned the meeting over to me.
The story that I had to share would stretch the bounds of believability and credibility even with those men who had known me for some time. But there were also men in the group who didn't know me at all, Pastors from First Methodist, First United Pentecostal and a dear brother from Bonami Missionary Baptist Church.
I told them about what had happened at my home a few days prior to our breakfast meeting. Several friends and supporters of our ministry were gathered in our living room. We worshiped the Lord together and I shared testimonies from a good friend of mine, John Sheasby, about an unusual thing that had happened in meetings that he had recently done in South Africa. According to the testimonies, as God moved mightily on the people in the meetings many in attendance discovered that the fillings in their teeth had turned gold. Others reported that where they had no fillings at all, they now had gold crowns and fillings. I told the men in Kirbyville that when I shared this with the friends gathered in my living room that the same thing happened in Fort Worth that had happened in South Africa. One of our good friends reported a gold colored filling in the shape of a cross where she had a normal amalgam filling prior to the meeting. Another reported remarkably that her young son had NO FILLINGS OR CAVITIES where the dentist had done four fillings a just a few weeks before.
As I shared these incredible stories the men listened intently. When I finished my report, not knowing at all how these men would receive the information, I turned the meeting back over to Pastor Burchett. He immediately asked me if I would pray for the Pastors group and see what happened. You could have knocked me out of the chair with a feather. I eagerly accepted the invitation to pray for this influential group of men. When I finished a very short and simple prayer for the Lord to come and manifest His glory in His people I encouraged the still somewhat skeptical pastors to check their mouths. They all gathered around a man who was the worship leader at First Baptist. A charismatic pastor from a nearby city was the first to speak. He shouted out excitedly, "They are turning gold right now!". As the curious men pressed in to peer into this brothers mouth they witnessed several of his amalgam fillings turn gold right before their eyes. Their response was amazing. All the pastoral pretense went out the window and they suddenly became like little boys excitedly awed by something that none of us could explain by natural means.
This happened on a Wednesday morning. As many of them returned to have their regularly scheduled mid week services that night, several reported that people in their own congregations found that they too had gold or silver fillings after hearing the testimonies of what had happened.
As word spread, Pastor Elzy Kelly of Bonami Missionary Baptist Church invited me to share at a Sunday night joint meeting of several of the local Churches. As the Spirit of God fell that night, we began to witness miracles, signs and wonders immediately. There were a number of significant healings including cancer and palsy. Some were saved and many who had never experienced the fullness of the Holy Spirit were blessed with the outpouring. Revival was on!
Over the next few weeks and months the people of Bonami Missionary Baptist Church and the other local groups that joined with them saw a tremendous move of God.
As has been the case from the book of Acts until today, many who would not normally think of attending these types of meetings were drawn out of curiosity and need to the signs, wonders and miracles done in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Many were touched and their lives changed forever. The Gospel was fully preached! It has been 6 years now since those meetings, but the Lord is still sending signs, wonders and miracles to confirm the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
